WUZHEN 乌镇 TRAVEL GUIDE

Wuzhen is another of the water towns close to Shanghai and has been restored to what historians believe it looked like in the Qing Dynasty (16th Century). The town itself dates back to the Tang Dynasty when Xian was the imperial capital and trade along the Silk Road the key to China's wealth. Wuzhen, along with Suzhou and other water towns were born out of their ability to produce silk which they long held a secret and which paid for their development.
