The high altitude land of Tibet offers some of China’s greatest options for adventure travel as well as an insight into a region very much cut off from the rest of the world for much of it’s history and rarely out of the news in the present. Tibet offers extraordinary architecture, stunning landscapes, friendly people and a devout Buddhist culture.

Many add a side trip to Lhasa into their overall China holiday but for others Tibet is their reason for coming to China with the bulk of their time spent in the province with the Lhasa to Kathmandu overland route being a favoured option.

Lhasa is now accessible from major Chinese cities by both train and plane but a trip to Tibet still needs good planning with train tickets and permits not always being easy to obtain due to ever changing bureaucracy and rules.
