Best Places to Experience Minority China

By far the largest ethnic group in China is the Han who dominate much of the country. However, there are literally dozens of minority peoples all across the country but particularly in the South and West. Here you will find colourful and varied cultures, delicious cuisines and less grandiose architecture and, many would agree, a more relaxing experience of China.

If you had to pick one region Yunnan province is probably the best area to explore as it is blessed with friendly people, tasty food, beautiful scenery and is easily accessible making it ideal to add on to tours covering the more well known highlights of China. The far south west of the province is also very Tibetan in feel which is useful if there are access issues with Tibet itself.

Western China has a more Central Asian feel and is a superb area for those looking for a more off the beaten track style of adventure as is Tibet of course.
