Yuan Yang 元阳 Travel Guide
Yuan Yang Overview
A favourite with photographers, the Yuan Yang rice terraces have been fashioned from the hillsides by the Hani people over centuries. Best viewed at sunrise and towards sunset when the paddies reflect the sun-setting sky turning the terraces into what has been described as a “silver ladder.” The climatic conditions here in the steep valleys also make it a prime tea producing region with the refreshing Yunwu tea being a favourite. All in all Yuan Yang is an interesting and adventurous multi-day trip from Kunming.
